Day 1 FISU World University Muaythai Championship 2018

Welcome to Pattaya

The beach-side resort town of Pattaya is exciting now about the event with Muaythai athletes having arrived from all over the world. This is the first World University Muaythai Championship and everyone is very excited to be here.

Young students are here in Thailand from 23 different countries, with athletes ready to compete for gold in 19 different weight categories. Muaythai is an ancient martial art which began in Thailand but now it is practiced all over the world

Hans Macatangay from the Philippines said the team is very excited to be in Thailand, flying the Philippines flag. He said “The arrangement here are good, we love the arena – it‘s cool to fight outdoor. Looks good! ” Team has seven athletes for the men’s and women’s divisions, from different universities including San Beda and the University of perpetual Help DALTA

And from sunny Australia Diandra Martin is representing her country for the first time at international level. She said, with a big smile, that she’s never been so excited as when the team tracksuit arrived at her house. “I’m going for gold, for sure,” she said

The restaurant at the Hard Rock Café resort is buzzing with the sounds of different languages. All the teams are staying in the same place which will make it really easy for them to meet new friends and build memories of Thailand and FISU which will last forever.

The University sports board of Thailand and all members of the organizing committee welcome everyone to Thailand, as does Host University, Institute of physical Education, and the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur (IFMA)
